Based on her own experience, Sr. Faustina felt the pain and the wretchedness of the
penitent soul (Diary, # 377). But even more so, Jesus wanted this wounded soul to reconcile with
Him. Thus, He instructed Sr. Faustina to write and to speak about the Sacrament of Penance,
which is His “Tribunal of Mercy” (Diary, # 1448). Jesus promises great graces to the penitent
who approaches His “representative” or His “vessel of trust,” and then “with faith,” to “humbly”
confess his sins to him (Diary, # 1602). In Confession, Jesus Himself is the compassionate God
who forgives his sins (CCC 1441-1442). He gives him “solace” and “restores him to fullness,”
as well (Diary, # 1448).
The Lord wants to grant the repentant sinner “the greatest miracle…God’s mercy,” even
if the soul were a “decaying corpse” (Diary, # 1448). Thus, through the Sacrament of Penance,
the Lord “fully demonstrates the miracle of Divine Mercy” to the soul (Diary, # 1487).
(1.2) In Confession, “the Misery of the Soul Meets the God of Mercy” in His Priest 300
(Diary, # 1602): Jesus told Sr. Faustina, “When you approach the confessional, know this
that I Myself am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I Myself act in your
soul. Here the misery of the soul meets the God of mercy” (Diary, # 1602).
(1.3) God Pours “Torrents of Grace to Trusting and Humble Souls” in Confession 301
Jesus Himself taught Sr. Faustina repeatedly on Confession, His “fountain of mercy”
through which He pours down His immeasurable grace to the soul, especially if it fully “trusted”
in Him (Diary, # 1602):
Daughter, when you go to Confession, to this fountain of My mercy, the Blood
and Water, which came forth from My Heart, always flows down upon your soul
and ennobles it. Every time you go to Confession, immerse yourself entirely in My
mercy, with great trust, so that I may pour the bounty of My grace upon your
