eyes. I very much desire that you distinguish yourself in this faithfulness in accomplishing God’s will. Put the will of God before all sacrifices and holocausts.” While the heavenly Mother was talking to me, a deep understanding of this will of God was entering my soul (Diary, # 1244). (14.5) “True Greatness is in Loving God and in Humbling Oneself” (Diary, # 1711) At some point, Sr. Faustina also wrote that, when she was alone with the Mother of God, She instructed her further on interior life, particularly on true greatness and on humility. She told her, “The soul’s true greatness is in loving God and in humbling oneself in His presence, completely forgetting oneself and believing oneself to be nothing, because the Lord is great, but He is well-pleased only with the humble. He always opposes the proud” (Diary, # 1711). (14.6) Mary Secures from God the Grace of Purity for Sr. Faustina (Diary, # 40) Once during Holy Mass, before Holy Communion, the Sisters renewed their vows. When the Sisters began reciting the formula for the vows, Jesus suddenly emerged by Sr. Faustina’s side. He was clothed in a white robe with a golden girdle about His waist and told her, “I give you eternal love that your purity may be untarnished and as a sign that you will never be subject to temptations against purity.” Jesus then removed the golden cincture and tied it around Sr. Faustina’s waist. Thereafter, Sr. Faustina had no further struggles with the virtue of purity, in her heart or in her mind. She had been praying for this gift for many years and her prayer was answered at last. She learned that purity was one of the greatest graces that the Mother of God secured for her. Since then, Sr. Faustina experienced a surge in her devotion to Mary, honoring Her especially for bringing the Lord Jesus to humanity and into her heart, besides the gift of joy that She brought to souls. Mary also instructed her, as well, on loving God interiorly and doing His holy will in everything. 114
