difficulties prove that this work is Mine. Be at peace, so long as you do all that is in your power” (Diary, # 1295). II B.37 Jesus Asks for the Loving and Redemptive Sacrifice of a Pure and Merciful Soul 185 (Diary, # 1316): On October 1, 1937 (about a year before she passes away), the Lord told Sr. Faustina, “Daughter, I need sacrifice lovingly accomplished, because that alone has meaning for Me. Enormous indeed are the debts of the world which are due to Me; pure souls can pay them by their sacrifice, exercising mercy in spirit” (Diary, # 1316). (Diary, # 1305): Sr. Faustina wrote that one day, a woman came to the convent’s door and asked to be one of their resident students. Besides being poor, she was also in need of housing. During Sr. Faustina’s talk with her, intense devotion to the Passion of Jesus was rekindled in this person. But, there was no more space for her and therefore could not be admitted. After the guest left, Sr. Faustina undertook “one of the severest mortifications” she ever did in her life. She offered it to the Lord and petitioned Him for the return of this lost sheep back to the fold. She suffered much on this soul’s account for three days. She lamented that their institutions were not large enough and had to turn away a greater number of such souls. She then resolved that, if she could, come next time, she would not let go of such a soul so easily again. She then confided to the Lord and prayed, “My Jesus, You know how much I grieve over every straying sheep…” (Diary, # 1305). 185 Ibid., Faustina, Diary, # 1316, 1305. 91
