T hus, the two installations produce a visual contrast between hyper-materialization on one side and dematerialization on the other. While the left-hand side focuses on the material connection to identity through the clothing pile, the right-hand side focuses on discursive connections through the images and interviews. Combined, these themes compel us to think about identity in relation to the materials and ideas in which we wrap ourselves everyday. It forces us to think about our clothes, our notions about them, our reasons for wearing them, the personas imbricated within them, and what our personal clothing choices mean to the formation of a UBC student identity characterized by heterogeneity. 14
