Halim Time & Glass Museum
Tuesday, November 5, 10:15 am, $35/$45 Non-Members
One suburban man and his family are passionate about time.
There are so many pieces they decided to build a museum to
house and display them. Come with us to the Halim Time &
Glass Museum. Located in Evanston, this wonder houses over
1,100 timepieces and over 70 stained glass pieces of art. The
building is five stories tall and is filled with history, art and the
study of time. We will stop Farmhouse Evanston for lunch
before heading home. (Substantial walking)
Reservations for trips in this issue open on Tuesday,
September 3 at 9:00 am. Please submit your request listing
your trips in order of preference. Email your requests to
[email protected] or leave a message at
847-234-2209. It is only necessary to leave one message.
Payment must be made within 3 days to secure your
reservation. Credits for cancellations will only be issued if we
can fill the opening from a wait list. All trips leave from
Dickinson Hall unless otherwise noted. Please arrive
15 minutes prior to departure time. Meal costs are not included
unless noted. Come join us!
Gourmet Trotters
Meet new friends and enjoy a meal together as you revisit an
old favorite or try something new! We welcome your
recommendations. Transportation is $10; meal is “Dutch treat.”

Baha’i Temple
Friday, September 6, 9:30 am, $20/$30 Non-Members
Join us on a 1.5 - hour docent tour of the Baha’i Temple, an
architectural project that took 50 years to build and continued
through two World Wars and the Great Depression. We will
then head over to the Celtic Knot Public House for an Irish
lunch and end at Bennison’s Bakery for something sweet for
dessert or to bring home for later. (Substantial walking)
The Bad Apple, Chicago

Katie was looking for just the place to get a good burger and
she thinks she may have found it: The Bad Apple offers a
contemporary American menu featuring interesting burger
options with fun flavor combinations. They boast a scratch
kitchen, meaning they work hard to make everything from their
dry-cured meats to ketchup from scratch! Alongside their
lengthy list of brews, this North Center neighborhood joint will
have something for everyone!
Chicago Riverwalk Tour
Monday, September 23, 9:30 am, $35/$45 Non-Members
Come explore the city’s Second Lakefront, the Chicago
Riverwalk, on this excellent guided walking tour! After obtaining
a $100 million Federal loan, the city has greatly expanded the
Riverwalk with six new “Rooms.” Plus, we will enjoy a short
boat ride along the Chicago River during the tour while taking
in the city’s incredible skyline. The tour will last about 2 hours
with a break for lunch at a riverfront venue. The total distance
will be approximately 1.5 miles. Headsets are included if
needed. (Substantial walking)
Mehanata, Des Plaines

Mehanata is a family-owned, suburban Bulgarian restaurant.
Since 2004, Mehanata has become known for its cozy, unique
decor and rustic, custom-made tables. Their menu features
traditional Bulgarian, Eastern European and Balkan food.
Salads are part of every Bulgarian meal, from classic Shopska
salad (tomatoes, cucumbers, roasted red peppers, green
onions, parsley and feta cheese) to everybody’s favorite
combination salad plate “Mehanata”.
The King’s Speech, Shakespeare Theater

Paralyzed by his stammer and unable to speak to a nation in
crisis, King George VI ascends the throne as England stands
on the brink of war once again with Germany. Enter
Lionel Logue, an Australian migrant with a career path as
unexpected as the king’s. The remarkable true story of this
unlikely bond between a reluctant king and a charismatic
subject that inspired the Academy Award-winning film is now
brought to the stage, where writer David Seidler first imagined
it. Lunch at Riva’s. Please note: These seats are located on the

The Color Purple, Drury Lane Theatre

Join the heroic journey of Celie, an African-American woman in
the American South during the early 1900s, as she navigates
the love she has for her sister, the strife of being in an abusive
relationship, and her adoration for her beloved children. This
heart-wrenching musical is based on the 1982 novel by Alice
Walker and earned fifteen Tony Award nominations. Lunch
entrees are Herb Roasted Chicken Breast or Sautéed
Tilapia ,which is included. Please make your selection when
