North West
LIVERPOOL & MERSEYSIDE
Members were entertained at our
June meeting, by puppeteers from the
‘Story Tent’ at the Museum of Liverpool
as they brilliantly illustrated how they
bring the written word to life for young
children. Certainly our members were
inspired and were delighted to sponsor
another ‘Story Box and its puppets’ for
the Museum.
On 12 July the Branch held its AGM
in the Athenaeum in Liverpool with
our guests Peter Kyle OBE and James
Ward who gave most enlightening talks
on their work for the ESU. We thanked
Chairman, Michael Shankland for the
enthusiasm and vitality which he had
brought to the role of Chairman during
his term of office and welcomed his
successor Brian Worster-Davis. Our
thanks were also expressed to Brenda
Elphick, a former Treasurer as she
retired from the Committee.
We began our new year in September
with a visit to the University of
Liverpool’s Botanic Gardens at Ness on
the banks of the River Dee. On a lovely
sunny afternoon, members enjoyed
guided tours of the wonderful gardens
followed by a delicious afternoon tea.
On 5 October we visited the Royal
Exchange Theatre in Manchester to
see Arthur Miller’s play ‘All my sons’
performed brilliantly by Talawa, Britain’s
primary Black-led theatre company. In
the words of one member, ‘A fabulous
visit’ – can we do it again?
Certainly our members were
inspired and were delighted
to sponsor another ‘Story Box
and its puppets’ for
the Museum.
