South Wales To adapt the saying by Coco Chanel - “the location may change but style endures”. And so it was that this year our Summer Garden Party moved from Castle-upon- Alun to Fonmon Castle, the residence of Sir Brooke Boothby and one of the very few medieval castles still lived in as a home. Well over 100 members enjoyed an evening of scrumptious sustenance, as much a feast for the eye as pleasure for the palate. A further felicity was the return of “Tinnitus”, the concordant coterie of clinicians whose vocal vocabulary truly convinced all present that music is indeed the medicine of the mind. A well-received addition to our AGM featured a presentation by Marjorie Page, our Schools Public Speaking Co-ordinator, on the latest competition and plans for the next one which will again include Primary Schools. The following lunch was rounded off with a spirited and entertaining talk from Stanley Johnson, father of progeny of distinction. Stanley has spent much of his life in the search for and protection of wild places and wild animals, and his experiences were presented with a heartfelt passion. We have broken new ground by sponsoring an English teaching programme at two schools in Timbuktu, where in terms of education young girls in particular are seriously disadvantaged and will benefit enormously from this initiative.
