To adapt the saying by Coco Chanel
- “the location may change but style
endures”. And so it was that this year
our Summer Garden Party moved from
Castle-upon- Alun to Fonmon Castle, the
residence of Sir Brooke Boothby and
one of the very few medieval castles still
lived in as a home.
Well over 100 members enjoyed an
evening of scrumptious sustenance,
as much a feast for the eye as pleasure
for the palate. A further felicity was the
return of “Tinnitus”, the concordant
coterie of clinicians whose vocal
vocabulary truly convinced all present
that music is indeed the medicine of
the mind.
A well-received addition to our AGM
featured a presentation by Marjorie
Page, our Schools Public Speaking
Co-ordinator, on the latest competition
and plans for the next one which will
again include Primary Schools. The
following lunch was rounded off with
a spirited and entertaining talk from
Stanley Johnson, father of progeny of
distinction. Stanley has spent much of
his life in the search for and protection
of wild places and wild animals, and
his experiences were presented with a
heartfelt passion.
We have broken new ground
by sponsoring an English teaching
programme at two schools in Timbuktu,
where in terms of education young girls
in particular are seriously disadvantaged
and will benefit enormously from
this initiative.

We now look forward to our Christmas
Carols and Supper on December
when Wyn Calvin, the Welsh Prince of
Laughter, will launch Christmas festivities
with his unique and infectious humour.
