“The debating workshop was really excellent - so much so that we have been meeting twice a week to continue debating since! We have also now entered a team in the Oxford Schools debating competition as well as the Mace and the ESU public speaking competition.” Teacher “Unbelievably helpful with debate skills and current affairs. ESU mentors made the course fantastic. Made so many new friends!” Student “When people hear that you do debating, they see you as a more confident person.” Student WHAT WE DO Our Discover Your Voice Training and Outreach programme teaches debating and public speaking skills in schools all over the UK, and we are growing. Our incredibly talented and committed ESU Mentor Community delivers sessions for students at primary and secondary school level, reaching thousands per year. We offer introductory training to get the school enthusiastic about debating as well bespoke training for teams that want to enter (and win!) competitions. Our themed workshops or competition days where, for example, a whole year group can discuss current social and political affairs have also proven to be popular. Our method is interactive and brings the fun back in learning, leaving the students buzzing with energy at the end of the day! WHAT WE ASK DISCOVER YOUR VOICE If you, like us, believe that debating and public speaking skills are essential to a young person’s development, then please use your network to bring schools in touch with the work we do. It can be your own old school, your children’s school, your nieces and nephews, neighbours, friends and colleagues. Students go to school and learn great things, but not all of them get the type of training that ensures that they go on to the next stages of their lives feeling confident about their potential. The ESU helps them get there. Please help us in our outreach work and refer our Discover Your Voice program YH
