LONDON ESU LONDON REGION The London Debate Challenge wouldn’t be able to take place without the continuous and generous support of The Week, MediaCom and the ESU London Branch Carol Sebag-Montefiore is Chairman of ESU London Region, who generously support the LDC I have been involved with the ESU for about six years and I think teaching debating and public speaking is important because it gives school children tremendous confidence to stand up in front of an audience. They can learn how to express their opinion in a concise, logical way after being involved with the London Debate Challenge. I think the topics are made interesting by the way the teams present them. The LDC is a wonderful grounding for future public speaking. I used to work in a public speaking school where senior and middle management were sent on our courses, as they could not get any further in their careers until they were able to speak effectively in public. I thought King’s Place was an excellent venue and I look forward to next year’s competition! ESU| 17
