PRACTICE PARTNER OFFICE CONSULT New requirements for reporting privacy breaches to Colleges, IPC ! ! ! A mendments are now in force that create new instances for health information custodians to report privacy breaches to colleges, and the Information and Privacy Commissioner (IPC). These amendments also create new provisions with respect to notifying affected individuals of privacy breaches and double the maximum fines for privacy offences. The College’s Mandatory and Permissive Reporting policy has been updated to reflect ! these new provisions. The IPC has also released a guidance document to assist physicians and other health information custodians (HICs) to comply with the recent amendments to the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA). The IPC document is called “Re- porting a Privacy Breach to the Commis- sioner: Guidelines for the Health Sector.” The guidelines are available on the IPC website in both HTML and PDF format at: www.ipc.on.ca.
