MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Further analysis in this regard
is necessary and Council will be
updated on this work at its meeting
in May, where it will have an opportunity to review any suggested
changes to the legislation and any
additional changes to College processes that are proposed.
More details about our wideranging discussion are the focus
of an article on page 23 of this
magazine. I urge you to read it. But
I must also note how heartened I
was by the commitment articulated
by both the physician and public
members around the Council table
on this matter. This is an issue that
we all agree is critical to our mandate as a public protection organization. We want to do better, and
we will do better.
It is my pleasure to be leading

the College at this time. We are at
an interesting stage in our evolution, with a number of significant
changes underway – some of them
challenging, many of them controversial – but all of them with our
mandate of public protection fully
in focus. In fact, our much-profiled
Professional Obligations and
Human Rights policy, which was
just approved by Council, is the
most recent example of an initiative
that affirms the rights of patients to
access care, and to be treated safely
and without discrimination.
I feel honoured to be a part of a
profession that puts service to the
public central to our daily lives.
But, as a practising pediatrician I
also know too well the challenges
and frustrations of running a busy
clinical practice, with the relent-
less stream of demands on our
time and attention. That is why
I appreciate that so many of you
have taken the time to participate
in our consultations and offer your
considered thoughts and insights
to improve our efforts. While the
College serves the public interest,
we only recognize that we will only
meet that goal if our expectations
are perceived as practical and wellconsidered by the profession. So,
please, I ask that you stay invested,
remain engaged, and continue to
let us know how we are doing. Your
input is crucial to the success of
medical regulation.
I look forward to working with
you all over the coming year.

Medicine is supposed to be secular and based on evidence @nationalpost
I support the decisions @cpso_ca to leave personal judgements out.
