KRUUSE I Equine Ophthalmology EQUIVET Eye Speculum This Eye Speculum is curved and has a stepless opening device for the eyelid, 9.5 cm long. Cat. No 230707 Description EQUIVET eye speculum There are several benefits of the equine eyelid speculum designed by KRUUSE when compared with other eyelid speculums available for the horse. The other designs are enlarged versions of human eyelid speculums. The EQUIVET Eyelid Speculum allows for a uniform opening of the eyelids allowing superior access to the bulbar and palpebral conjunctiva, nictitating membrane, sclera and the cornea. Additionally, the speculum has been designed to lift the eyelids away from the globe while simultaneously retracting the eyelids which minimizes pressure on the globe which is very beneficial at maintaining a formed anterior chamber during intraocular surgery. The light-weight of the speculum makes it ideal for use in standing ophthalmic surgical procedures. Because of the uniform palpebral fissure opening with the speculum repetitive repositioning of the speculum to improve tissue access is not necessary. Richard J. McMullen Jr., Dr. med. vet., Dipl.
