Carton House Golf Resort Maynooth » Ireland Athlone » Ireland Carton House Golf Resort Glasson Country Hous Carton is home to two magnificent golf courses, The O’Meara, a stunning parkland spread, and The Montgomerie, an inland links-style creation. The transformation of the estate into a first-class golf resort began in 1999. In 2002, the first phase of the development saw the opening of the Mark O’Meara course. This gorgeous parkland spread makes splendid use of the historic demesne’s rolling hills, specimen trees and the River Rye. Feature holes include the 13th, 14th and 15th – a pair of par 3s wrapped around a heroic par 5 – crossing the lazy loops of the river. The opportunity to gamble is paramount as is the sense of tranquillity that the holes create. Quite different yet complimentary to The O’Meara, is The Montgomerie, opened in June 2003. This magnificent course was Montgomerie’s second course design – his first in Ireland and the UK. Monty said of it: “This is a unique project and I am privileged to be associated with it. You can’t call it a links course, but it plays like a links and has all the characteristics of a links. In designing this course, I attempted to go back to a more traditional course.” Located just over an hour from Dublin stunning lakeside setting and offers m Ree from every hole on its golf course four-star hotel on-site, Glasson is idea the golfer travelling across the countr short-break golfing destination close t was designed by Christy O’Connor Jr Glasson is a parkland course, measu par of 73, with holes that will challeng signature hole, the 15th, has both its t water and is one of the most photogra With the first nine holes overlooking L looking out across Killinure Bay, O’Co Tom Reid to develop the course, desc scenic pieces of land I’ve ever seen in recognised by the Irish Golf Tour Ope awarded the prestigious title of 2011 I www.cartonhouse.com 34 Top 100 Stay & Play 2016 www.glassongolfhotel.ie
