His Holy Spirit gives us spiritual gifts because we
are His children; children of the highest God.
Now if we become His children, not only do we
know His love, we learn to fear Him just as we
would a good, earthly father. If our father on
earth gives us rules, if we have any respect for
him, we will fear breaking those rules because
we would not want to suffer the consequences--like being grounded or getting a spanking. God
will ground or spank His children too to help them
to become wise in this world. If our earthly father
disciplines us to save our lives from ignorance
and destruction, our Heavenly Father is also
doing the same.

God wants to give us life.
The fear of the Lord is a fountain of
life, to depart from the snares of
death. (Proverbs 14:27 KJV)
