Georgia. Eventually, she would become the first female student in the history of the Atlanta Job Corps Center to ever enlist into any branch of the Armed Forces while still an active student on their role. In addition, she would also be the first female within her family to enter any branch of the military as well. Polite completed a little over eight years of service in the United States Army and exited the national defense organization with an honorable discharge due to a hereditary illness that she wasn’t aware that she had. She has one child, a son, Keyon C. Polite (16), a writer within his own rights and an entrepreneur as well. Together, they have formed the self-publishing mogul KingDominion Publishers, LLC. This publishing mogul has published over twenty-two titles and counting, houses seven imprints (including D’Lite Publications, Inc.), and is currently in the development stage in owning their very own indie film production company, KingDominion Indie Films and Music. This mom and son duo is definitely what we like to call DetermineD. As a little girl, writing was Polite’s passion. She wrote plays and poems and even went as far as to have some of her friends to act out the scenes as if they were performing in a theater or in Hollywood or something. From the looks of it, you could probably tell that Polite had a pretty bright future in the industry. But something happened. Somewhere along the journey, Polite lost interest. Her dreams of becoming a national playwright and screenwriter had faded. The only thing that she held on to, at this point, was poetry and that would soon began to fade too. As time went on, she found herself not picking up her pen as often as she’d done before. All she knew was that her life was spiraling out of control and there was nothing that she could do about it except accept it for what it was becoming. By age twelve, it was apparent that Polite had become the victim of verbal and physical abuse at the hands of a dysfunctional family. Her dreams and goals plummeted and became worse than a distant memory, they became null and void, with every whack of the belt, with every kick and punch; and with every low-down, demeaning, and degrading word that escaped the lips of her family members, especially those of her mother, that seemingly pierced her through and through. The lies and negativity that were constantly being driven and instilled in her at this tender age had begun to set in and claim its stake, its toll, its territory. It started to change the insight that she once had of herself as becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought after directors and producers; as well as, becoming a New York Times Best-Selling Novelist and Poet, as well as becoming the strong minded and good-willed entrepreneur that she knew and felt she was destined to be. As a result of it all, Polite felt that she had only one option – to throw in the towel, and I’m not just talking about on her situation but also on life. Yep, I’m talking suicide. For her, growing up puts the “dys” in dysfunction and I am putting that very lightly. But as time went on, God would prove her wrong about her new found views of life and His love. It’s true, what God has for you – is for you! Nobody and nothing can take that away from you, not even you yourself. God’s grace is definitely sufficient and He is truly a man of His word. This great woman of God is a true living testimony to His faithfulness and His righteousness and she’s not ashamed to tell it in its unadulterated, un-sugarcoated, un-doctored form and detail. Below you will find some of the conversation that I had with this inspiring and impressive woman of purpose, but you’ll have to read the book Soldier Girl to see why I am so captivated by her. 16 | P a g e
