4 • March 2016 ALEXANDRIA LAKES AREA Make Alexandria your Up North destination for music If it’s music you want on your Up North vacation, then make Alexandria your destination. Highlights include the “Symphony from Scandinavia” on Saturday, May 28, at the Performing Arts Center. On both Saturday and Sunday, May 28-29, the Ole Oppe Fest will feature not only live music, but food activities, wing competition and a beer garden. Then, the 32nd annual Vikingland Band Festival will take over downtown Alexandria on Sunday, June 26, with some of the Midwest’s best high school marching bands. A special holiday concert will be held on the Courthouse lawn on the Fourth of July. And Thursdays and Fridays, Aug. 4-5 and 11-12, the Broadway musical “Grease” will be staged. The summer events wrap up with the annual Grape Stomp and Fall Festival at Carlos Creek Winery, Friday through Sunday, Sept. 16-18. The festival features 12 live bands to help the participants get into the rhythm with their grape stomping. Wine tasting and 150 art, marketplace and food vendors will be on hand. But more than that, live music is being performed somewhere in the Alexandria area Thursday through Sunday, all summer long. Thursday evenings, concerts are held on the Courthouse lawn. In addition, every Thursday and Friday evening, live music is performed at Sixth Avenue. And then on the weekend, Carlos Creek Winery offers live music every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.
