March 2016 • 23 Osakis celebrates all summer long CENTRAL MN LAKES AREA For a small town (pop. 1,720), Osakis does summer up big. The Osakis Festival, which occurs the fourth weekend in June includes four days of fun. Activities include a ladies salad luncheon, Senior Citizen Day, ladies’ bunko, flea market, children’s games and activities, fire department water fights, a street dance and more. The Grand Parade fills the streets at 1 p.m. on the final day of the festival, leading everyone to Park Osagi for a children’s theater production and concert. Anglers won’t want to miss the Osakis Lions Walleye Fishing Tournament on the second weekend in June. The Fourth of July features the giant West Union Parade at 2 p.m.. West Union is just five miles south of Osakis. The parade is followed by fireworks at sunset at the Osakis Country Club. Classic car enthusiasts will want to put on their calendars the Central Lakes Cruzer car show on the second Friday and Saturday of July. The event is highlighted by the Roddin’ Round the Lake Car Show, which begins in downtown Osakis. A celebrity auction is also held that day. The next day, Sunday, Immaculate Conception Church holds its annual Parish Festival. Come and enjoy some traditional Minnesota fun. The first weekend in August features the Rose City threshing Bee from Friday through Sunday. Two weeks later, Aug. 18-21, the Douglas County Fair in Alexandria brings in people from throughout the area. Then, on the second Saturday in September, Moonshine Madness is held.
