Nairn Dunbar
Lying just to the east of its championship
neighbour, Nairn Dunbar is over 100 years old. It
is a links lying slightly inland from the sea with
fairways channelled by gorse as well as pine and birch. These give
holes their structure but they can’t hide the course’s links roots.
Certainly the low, twisting terrain embraces traditional Scottish
links and let’s not forget the pot bunkers, several of which are
new. Even so, the small woods promise sweet hole shapes with a
burn often coming in to play. It all combines to challenge golfers
off the tee while presenting an attractive course. There are some
lovely characteristics – a lateral spine runs through the 4th green,
and natural ridges create blind or semi-blind approach shots, with
the par five 18th promising a sticky end.
