DALLAS GOLF
TPC FOUR SEASONS LAS COLINAS
TPC Las Colinas matches Colonial for its links with Ben Hogan ’ s contemporary Byron Nelson ( both learned to play golf as caddies at Fort Worth ’ s now-closed Glen Garden Country Club , soon to become a whiskey distillery ). Nelson was a consultant when the course , since redesigned by DA Weibring , was built in 1983 and the PGA Tour ’ s AT & T Byron Nelson Championship has been held there ever since . A bronze statue of its own local hero stands by the TPC ’ s first hole , and some of Nelson ’ s career memorabilia and trophies are displayed by the pro shop in the Hall of Champions . The winners ’ board reads like a Who ’ s Who of golf .
The 7,166-yard , par 70 course has a natural feel despite its urban setting and is an exacting test , particularly on waterlined holes such as the par-4 3rd , the toughest hole . It finishes with a flourish . The par-3 17th plays downhill to a green with a pond front right , while the signature , par-4 18th doglegs around a cluster of ponds fed by waterfalls to a huge , undulating green . Accommodation at the luxury Four Seasons resort includes exquisite villas overlooking the 18th hole .
DALLAS COWBOYS GOLF CLUB
The world ’ s only NFL-themed course has plaques by every tee relating stories about the famous gridiron team . Although under the flight path of nearby Dallas / Fort Worth International Airport , it enjoys a beautiful wooded setting interwoven by a river and lakes .
Tee off on high on several holes , among them the par-4 4th which features the Cowboys ’ blue star logo painted on the fairway . Tee markers also bear the star logo and NFL fans can buy Dallas Cowboys golf ephemera galore in the pro shop . An all-inclusive club , the green fee includes all food and drink except alcohol .
DALLAS ATTRACTIONS
The Sixth Floor Museum , housed in the former Texas School Book Depository from where President John F Kennedy was shot by a sniper in 1963 , is a must-see . Visit it along with other key Dallas attractions using a ticket voucher booklet offered by CityPASS which gives discounts on admission prices ..
Also included are the Reunion Tower Geo-Deck , giving 360-degree views of the city , and the Perot Museum of Nature and Science , which appeals as much to adults as to children with its fascinating interactive exhibits , dinosaur and bird halls , earthquake simulator and 3D films .
