of the majestic Slieve Mish mountain range running along the Dingle peninsula to the West .
The area is steeped in history . The beach , which runs at the back of the 1st hole and to the right of 2nd hole was the location of the beach scenes of the 1970 epic movie Ryan ’ s Daughter , which won the Academy Award for Best Cinematography . The stretch of beach just north of the 15th tee box is the lonely part of Banna Strand on which Roger Casement was landed from a U-boat on Good Friday 1916 . He was arrested a short distance away , tried for treason in London , and executed . The beach behind the 16th green and off the right of the 17th hole was where many ships ran aground , including one vessel from the Spanish Armada in 1588 . Beyond the edges of the course – the dunes , besches , mountains and seascapes , led Golf Channel to nominate Tralee Golf Club , as a top ten ‘ Best Ocean Courses ’ in the World .
Other famous sites around the course include the Tower at the back of the 3rd green which dates back to the 1190s . Legend has it that the big sandstone rock at the end of the wall running diagonally between the fourth and fifth fairways was hurled by the mythical Cuchullain from the top of the Sliabh Mish .
A little further out the course , the back of the 7th tee box overlooks the ‘ Randy ’, a small harbour that was a haven for smugglers in earlier centuries .
The bar & restaurant clubhouse views must have some of the most remarkable views of any golf clubhouse in the world , overlooking not only the golf course but the beautiful rugged coastline and stretch of the wild Atlantic Ocean that spans the vista .
The restaurant offers a range of speciality meals produced with the finest of local produce and is the perfect place to unwind and relax after your game or on a sunny day , the Balcony offers the perfect spot to watch your fellow golfers coming in whilst enjoying the views on offer . It ’ s tough to leave and many travelling golfers have been disappointed to hear their shuttle bus pull up .
Other extensive facilities in the clubhouse include a lounge room with TV for keeping an eye on the scores from the majors and internet access is available . It provides the perfect retreat after a day of golfing and is well equipped with everything from internet access , spacious dressing rooms with shower facilities and steam rooms , TV Lounge rooms and not to mention The Pro Shop .
The Club Professsionals are there are on hand manage and assist not only on the course information but also on the shops extensive range of branded goods .
The local caddies are extremely knowlegable which can come in handy for first time players to this muscular links course .
