EAST
The Four Season Golf Club at Anahita (www.fourseasons.com/
mauritius/golf) on the east coast opposite Ile aux Cerfs is another
course by a top golfer-turned-designer, in this instance South Africa’s
Ernie Els. The fairways are wide and forgiving but accuracy is the key for
approach shots to the small, undulating greens guarded by lurking bunkers.
The course has also hosted the AfrAsia Bank Maurice Open twice.
On the outward nine, the par-5 4th and par-3 8th holes play towards the
Indian Ocean while the final three holes skirt the sea in one of golf’s most
stirring finishes.

The course is managed by the adjacent, luxury Four Seasons resort and
a waiter serves you a refreshingly-cold lemon drink and cookies at the
halfway point. A pen behind the 9th green used to house two giant
Aldabra tortoises that golfers could feed with bananas, but they have now
been moved to a new garden next to the resort’s spa.
