Landscaping & Exterior Works Iconic octagonal glasshouse Jan Sweeney Satisfaction built on tradition. British greenhouse and glasshouse manufacturer Hartley Botanic was recently commissioned by the RHS to create an iconic glasshouse which would form the centrepiece of Hyde Hall’s new edible gardens. The resulting design is a bespoke glasshouse based on an original version of the manufacturer’s Victorian model, in an arresting and unusual octagonal style and with an impressive 14 metre span. From above, the glasshouse’s roof is a perfect octagon, with the shape allowing for an impressive growing volume and light to flood in from every angle. The glasshouse includes two sets of very large doors running from North to South and a feature roof lantern with a 3 metre span. All Hartley Botanic’s greenhouses and glasshouses are made to order. Jan Sweeney’s lost wax bronze equestrian and wildlife sculptures can be viewed at Ascot Spring Show from 13th to 15th April and Badmington Horse Trials 1st to 6th May. A pool can be designed to meet your every desire, be that a classic or minimalist design, and now you can have one of the most stylish and efficient types available – a stainless steel pool! New light façade with natural clay tiles European Building Materials has launched Vidar, a clean and elegant lightweight cladding system using natural clay tiles. Vidar can be used for both facades and roofs, providing a seamless transition from wall to roof. Made from 100% inorganic materials, the Vidar lightweight system weighs only 40 kilos per square metre and is assembled in 3m lengths. It has been tested to a height of 25m and resists winds up to 40m/s. The 75mm thin wall comprises clay tiles mounted on an aluminium backing system. Build-up does not require wet trades and can result in fast construction. In the UK hares play an important role, as do horses and dogs. Jan’s passion for sculpting hares was sparked by a friends nightly photographic sessions. Jan even kept a dead hare in her deep-freezer for reference for a short while! A modern, timeless material used widely in interior design, stainless steel complements all types of homes, blending perfectly with different materials. An outstanding feature of stainless steel pools is that they can be built faster than you might expect. Jan says “It is the tension and movement I want to express, the strength and power ready to explode! “ Using prefabricated stainless steel pool material and technology enables the pool to be built in less time than it takes using conventional construction methods. Stainless steel pools are extremely durable and lower on maintenance. Clay sculpture workshops available. Stylish and upmarket.
