State of Matters:
HR Issues
within the Construction Industry
by Calvin Cassar
To an extent, we all show an innate interest in construction. When a child (but also most adults) walks onto a
sandy beach they will start making doodles in the sand. Most will enjoy picking up a spade, shoving sand into
a bucket and turning this round to build their castle. The more advanced users will try to construct a bridge
out of sand, while the creative ones will shape the sand into different forms such as sea animals or mythical
creatures.
Construction resonates with our innermost spirit and during our presence on the planet we have constant-
ly sought to build, develop and reach out to the limits to develop the largest, most complex and elaborate
structures possible. While technology has increasingly grown in importance in these past hundred years, the
human element remains key in driving the industry forward to achieving the results.
