The balance of contrasts
A project able to turn a villa with untapped potential
into an abode with a strong attitude by means
of materials and colours that use contrasts
as a wise balance.

A villa on Lake Garda with great untapped potential: that’s the
situation the owners faced when they bought the building. Large
bright spaces which – despite the new Art Nouveau taste of some
high-end elements such as the large stairway connecting different
floors – completely result in featureless and poorly-exploited
environments.
The project – entrusted to architect Silvia Zatti – takes up the task
of giving a strong soul to this house, modifying environments by
giving them a new personal and meaningful attitude.
The well-established partnership between the architect and the
Squassabia Store in Sirmione – particularly in the person of Luigi
Ferrario – produces a high-quality and valuable work that covers
all aspects of living, able to enhance all the good features through
targeted and aware choices.
By focusing on the existing brightness and on the Art Nouveau
elements, a thoughtful contrast of colours and materials develops
– all inspired by that period –, giving a great balance of shapes,
spaces and overall livability, designed in terms of functionality
and visual perception.
The use of several and varied colours – but always logical and
coherent – originating from dark wood, brass, octane, black
and gold perfectly matches the appealing wallpaper textures,
combined with a study on lighting focused on enhancing the
contrasts in the pursuit of a noticeable balance.
An excellent example of this is the stairway – whose elegance is
embellished with a painting decoration and a design with vertical
black and white stripes, gold leaf but also precious and high-end
items such as golden vases, a vintage armchair and a 60s design
stool –, able to enhance the Art Nouveau taste of railings and
windows that light up volumes, giving the space a strong and
meaningful personality.
The result is a contemporary, functional and evocative abode
where custom-made elements and unique design pieces live side
by side in a background balance with a strongly-customized
attitude.
