An Open Letter from DISD Graduate , Camille Milner
Dear DISD Teachers , Counselors , Administrators , Librarians , and other Faculty and Staff :
Every day you deal with children in crisis , some children of divorce or children in families that are still married but have ongoing conflict , which of course , carries over into their school day . I can help with that . I am a graduate of DISD , the child of public school teachers , and for years I have tried to think of a way to help you in what you do . My background as a divorce lawyer has given me some insight and some reasons to know about publications that might be helpful to you , your students and their families . If I can , by pre-reviewing these materials , save you some steps and at the same time help your students and families when they need it , then I have met my goal . In the new DISD Magazine , I am planning to present a variety of materials , including reviews of books for children and adolescents whose family or friends are going through divorce , that maybe you can use or pass on to your students and their families to make them and their families healthier and happier , and in turn , make your job easier . If you like what I do , please come to my website and look at the other materials I have available to you , subscribe to my blog and newsletter and forward these materials on to your colleagues , friends , and parents of your students . If you have comments or suggestions , please share those with me so that with time , this can become a rich resource for you and for the children and families that you bless with your talents and time . My website is www . milner-law . com ; my email is camille @ milner-law . com , and my phone is 940 / 383-2674 .
I am going to begin this project with a recent blog I wrote , in which I suggested that , as parents , we should post this article somewhere that will enable and remind us to read it every day and take it to heart . It is a simple ( and yet , not easy ) formula for well-adjusted children , and while no one can do it perfectly , just making the effort will be worth it . One of my readers , former DISD teacher , Linda Scofield , said she thought this should be on a magnet and on every family ’ s refrigerator . Hopefully , it will help you and your students and their families make this school year better than ever before . Please enjoy , “ Eighteen Ways to Build a Resilient Child .” http :// milner-law . com / building-resilient-children /
