Samantha Everly – This past summer,
Samantha interned with the Human
Resources Department at the corporate
office. She has been the lead in digitizing
files in the OnBase system, which consists
of scanning and indexing the files, while
creating a user-friendly filing system within
the program. The internship gave Samantha
the opportunity to experience many different
aspects of Human Resources, such as new
hire orientations and paperwork, scheduling
and assisting with interviews, and learning
more about networking and social media.
Many of the pictures and videos on social
media sites were taken by Samantha at
various Delta worksite locations. Her
favorite part of the internship was the friendly
environment the company has. “It makes
you able to enjoy working and have fun
doing it. There are smiling friendly faces
everywhere and everyday someone says
‘hello’ to you and asks you how you are
doing,” she described. Samantha is a
graduate of Miami University in Ohio with
degree in American Studies and will be
continuing her internship with Delta heading
the OnBase project.
Tommy Selsor – Tommy’s internship
found him involved in every aspect of
ready mix. He is currently a student at
Southeast Missouri State University with a
major in Technology Management, with an
emphasis in Construction Management and
Technology. His responsibilities included
assisting with Quality Control testing and
checking air, aggregates, slump, and
moisture content levels. Tommy also
assisted in one of Delta Concrete’s night
pours in Sikeston, Missouri, and did some
training at the Southeast Missouri Stone
lab. Tommy anticipates a graduation date
this December plans to pursue a career in
construction management.
Alec Ramsdell –Alec spent his summer
internship at Delta’s Corporate Office.
Currently, he is a senior at Missouri State
University, working toward his bachelor’s
in Business and Accounting with plans to
obtain his CPA. Alec’s biggest project for
the summer was designing a workable
spreadsheet for regional controllers to assist
with cash forecasting. Alec used daily
banking sheets from the past two years to
the present in order to look for trends in the
cash flow process. The banking sheets
were reconciled weekly and balance monthly
by Alec. Although he was an accounting
intern, Alec had the opportunity participate
in the interviewing process in Paragould,
Arkansas. Alec stated, “I thoroughly enjoyed
my time with Delta! The internship was great
and I learned a lot.”
Tyler Stewart – Interning at the Quality
Control Lab in Luxora, Arkansas, Tyler
learned the various methods and mixtures
that go into creating asphalt and how
specific each mixture is to each specific job.
Tyler worked mostly with mixtures of Base,
Binder, and Surface for the I-55 Interstate
project in Blytheville, Arkansas. During her
internship, Tyler also had the experience of
working on a 12-hours on and 12-hours
off type of schedule. Though these hours
are long, Tyler stated that it was her favorite
part of her experience, giving her “insight
into how a big road construction project is
put together at all hours of the day.” Tyler
is currently a junior at Southeast Missouri
State University, studying Construction
Management Design, with an emphasis on
Facilities Management and Sustainability.
