or public relations. Samantha Everly – This past summer, Samantha interned with the Human Resources Department at the corporate office. She has been the lead in digitizing files in the OnBase system, which consists of scanning and indexing the files, while creating a user-friendly filing system within the program. The internship gave Samantha the opportunity to experience many different aspects of Human Resources, such as new hire orientations and paperwork, scheduling and assisting with interviews, and learning more about networking and social media. Many of the pictures and videos on social media sites were taken by Samantha at various Delta worksite locations. Her favorite part of the internship was the friendly environment the company has. “It makes you able to enjoy working and have fun doing it. There are smiling friendly faces everywhere and everyday someone says ‘hello’ to you and asks you how you are doing,” she described. Samantha is a graduate of Miami University in Ohio with degree in American Studies and will be continuing her internship with Delta heading the OnBase project. Tommy Selsor – Tommy’s internship found him involved in every aspect of ready mix. He is currently a student at Southeast Missouri State University with a major in Technology Management, with an emphasis in Construction Management and Technology. His responsibilities included assisting with Quality Control testing and checking air, aggregates, slump, and moisture content levels. Tommy also assisted in one of Delta Concrete’s night pours in Sikeston, Missouri, and did some training at the Southeast Missouri Stone lab. Tommy anticipates a graduation date this December plans to pursue a career in construction management. Alec Ramsdell –Alec spent his summer internship at Delta’s Corporate Office. Currently, he is a senior at Missouri State University, working toward his bachelor’s in Business and Accounting with plans to obtain his CPA. Alec’s biggest project for the summer was designing a workable spreadsheet for regional controllers to assist with cash forecasting. Alec used daily banking sheets from the past two years to the present in order to look for trends in the cash flow process. The banking sheets were reconciled weekly and balance monthly by Alec. Although he was an accounting intern, Alec had the opportunity participate in the interviewing process in Paragould, Arkansas. Alec stated, “I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Delta! The internship was great and I learned a lot.” Tyler Stewart – Interning at the Quality Control Lab in Luxora, Arkansas, Tyler learned the various methods and mixtures that go into creating asphalt and how specific each mixture is to each specific job. Tyler worked mostly with mixtures of Base, Binder, and Surface for the I-55 Interstate project in Blytheville, Arkansas. During her internship, Tyler also had the experience of working on a 12-hours on and 12-hours off type of schedule. Though these hours are long, Tyler stated that it was her favorite part of her experience, giving her “insight into how a big road construction project is put together at all hours of the day.” Tyler is currently a junior at Southeast Missouri State University, studying Construction Management Design, with an emphasis on Facilities Management and Sustainability. EMPLOYEE NEWS ENGAGEMENT Brett Larkowski (Staff Accountant) proposed to Blake Talkington in July – and she said YES!!!! Brett and Blake met in Cape Girardeau and have dated for 2 years and 3 months. Together, Brett and Blake have moved to the Cape Girardeau area and will begin planning a wedding for next year. Blake grew up in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, while Brett is originally from Wentzville, Missouri. Brett interned with Delta before accepting an accounting position in Delta’s Missouri Regional Construction office, then moved to the Arkansas Regional Construction office, and now back at the Missouri Regional Construction office!
