MEETING WITH STATE LEGISLATORS

Senator Boozman meets with members of Arkansas Asphalt Pavement Association
In November, Jim Weeks (Vice President,
Colas Inc.), Ric Neubert (President, Delta), and
Don Rosenbarger (Senior VP of Operations,
Delta), along with others from across the
country, visited legislators and/or their staff
during the 2014 NAPA/NSSGA Materials
Group Fly-In held in Washington DC. The
purpose of the trip was to secure long-term
funding for our nation’s aging transportation
system.
The current highway funding bill (MAP-21)
was to expire on September 30; however, a
“patch” was passed by Congress to extend
the current level of funding through May 2015.
This “patch” allows the Highway Trust Fund to
continue to disperse funds to the State DOTs
to pay contractors for projects in their states.
Colas and Delta employees worked to
educate legislators regarding the condition of
the transportation system in their state and
discussed some possible funding options.
The Colas/Delta representation met with
the following legislators and/or members
of their staff: Senators McCaskill and Blunt
from Missouri; Senators Boozman and Pryor
from Arkansas; Representatives Clay, Smith,
Luetkemeyer, Wagner, Hartzler, Graves, and
Long from Missouri; and Representatives
Womack, Crawford, Cotton, and Griffin
from Arkansas.
It will require a continued effort by all to
educate, encourage, and convince Congress
to pass a fully-funded robust comprehensive
long-term transportation solution. Delta
appreciates the help and support received
from all employees in the need to fix our roads.
