Delta Companies Annual Picnic On June 1, 2014, Delta Companies’ DLH employees celebrated the annual picnic with their friends and families at Cape County Park. The event was catered by Mike’s Meats and More of New Madrid, Missouri. Prizes were drawn for those in attendance. Each child in attendance received gift bags and cash prizes. The rain showers throughout the day provided a cool relief to a hot crowd, while the children enjoyed a chance to play in the wet grass and, ultimately, the mud. Thank you to all who attended and Delta hopes to see everyone there next year. EMPLOYEE NEWS Jerry (Environmental and Safety Manager) and Rhonda Neels’ son, Bradley Neels, was promoted to the rank of Corporal for the Cape Girardeau City Police Department on July 1, 2014. Jerry also celebrated becoming a grandfather, for the second time. On April 17, 2014, Bradley and Amy (Marchbank) Neels, with daughter Reese, 3, welcomed Samuel Lon Neels. Samuel weighed 7 lbs and has a very excited big sister! Reese continued her duties as a big helper by decorating the Safety Bake-off entry cake with Grandpa Jerry. They did a wonderful job! The Neels’ families had a blessed year - Congratulations! H a y d e n , Rhett, and Gabriel Perry came to visit the corporate office on June 10, 2014! They entertained all with eating breakfast provided by dad, Andy Perry (IT Manager). They are very well-behaved young men and on their way to being IT gurus, just like Dad. They have iPads and DS games and know their way around a computer…they may be the future techies for all of Delta’s computer needs. Mackenzie, daughter of Jason & Geri Lawless (Regional Controller), played for the Heartland Nationals softball team this season. The team won 1st Place in the State Tournament for 8 and Under. Kaleb Luttrell (16), the son of Karee Luttrell (Clinton Quarry), attended a twoweek training for the Naval Sea Cadets in July. He graduated with honors and was the only one to be given the Commander’s Coin out of 103 cadets in training. The leaders and trainers vote for cadets to receive this honor. He was chosen as having the most determination, honor, leadership, and values out of the troop. He also received the Presidential Fitness award for having the fastest running time and most pull-ups and push-ups. Kaleb is a Junior at Quitman High in Quitman, Arkansas. Great Job, Caleb!!! Julie Ann Faith was born on July 19th to proud parents Brian (SEMO Stone) and Crystal Parmer. This beautiful baby girl has definitely captured her dad’s heart (and has him right where she wants him)! Welcome baby Julie! Welcome to the world Cooper Wyatt, son to Jacob (SEMO Stone) and Katelyn Sullivan. Cooper was born on July 16th and is the pride and joy (and the first child!) of his parents. Congratulations on a healthy baby boy! KP: Honoring the Life of a Very Special Person It is with a saddened heart that the Delta Family says goodbye to Ora Kevin Proffer (SEMO Stone), who passed on Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Kevin, better known as KP, was the secondary plant operator at Southeast Missouri Stone (SEMO Stone). He had worked at the quarry since 1986, becoming very close to his fellow co-workers and taking pride in his work. Tad Moats (Quarry Foreman) reminisces on the conversations he had with KP: “The house Kevin was raised in was located on the border of the quarry. He often talked about how this place was a playground for him and his siblings as they were growing up – and how much fun they had here. KP will be missed by all of us who worked with him. I want to say ‘Thank you’ to him for being much more than a co-worker, but being my friend and comrade. May one day we meet again.” Delta Companies Inc. 2014 Newsletter | ISSUE 3 7
