Soror Jackie Nash was born, raised and educated in the River City. She spent 40
years in the field of Social Work across the country, and retired from the state of
Florida in 2006.
While her strengths are community organizing, mental health
and medical social work for over 17 years, Soror Nash has worked equally hard
as a member of the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter—initiated in 2003.
She has been recognized for her work as the recipient of a number of awards in
the community, including the Nelson Mandela Award through an international
HIV/AIDS project in South Africa; the 2003 Outstanding Woman in Public Health
Jackie
Nash
award; and the 2013 recipient of the Sarah Cotton Award for work in Mental
Health.
Soror Nash has worked diligently within the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter, as our
past Chapter Chaplain and particularly in the fields of social action. She is the
glue for the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter social action committee, where she
has chaired and co-chaired for the past seven years. As chair she led the
chapter to receive the first Dr. Paulette C. Walker Award for Social Action and she
was instrumental in the chapter’s collaboration with American Association
University Women.
Working tirelessly for the Jacksonville community, she is also
instrumental in the collection of over 700 petitions for Florida Rights
Restoration.
She continues to lead the chapter each year at World
AIDS Week where the chapter was recognized by the World AIDS
committee with the 2016 Impact Award.
Retirement looks good on Soror Nash as she enjoying her years doing
as much as she can while she can for others! Her present focus is to
assist in the development of a faith-based model for addressing
“Make our community better by daily identifying what needs to be done and doing something about it.”
