founders day
By: Sorors Stephanie Oglesby & Jackie Bohannon
January 13 th marked Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated’s 105 years of
service. This was also a time for members to reflect and pay homage to our 22
founders.
In honor of Founders Day, and Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter 72 nd anniversary of
serving our local community, the Founders Day committee commemorated this
occasion by visiting our local founder, Soror Winona Cargile Alexander’s gravesite.
Rededication and worship service were held at Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, where
Soror Alexander served as a member and officer.
The committee concluded a week-long celebration with a dinner and play titled
“Lillie and the Line Shirt,” written by Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter member, Soror Effie Derban.
The play depicted the evolution of the chapter’s rich history in a humorous, entertaining and
informative manner. The amazing performance of the cast members kept the audience on the
edge of their seats.
The committee thanks the chapter for their support, Effie for her insightfulness and creativity,
and the cast for their hard work.
