TO DEFAULT
Chaplain’s Corner
By Rev. Dr. Monica Hardy
Default is a value that a program or operating system assumes
when the user or programmer specifies no overriding value or
action. In simplest terms, default is going back to the original
setting. When I first heard the word default, I thought it meant
old habits. However, when I studied scripture (Jeremiah 1:5), it
occurred to me that default is actually going back to God’s
original plan.
So when we reset (i.e., restart, reboot, recalibrate) to default,
we are actually removing the clutter/extras that we added. For
example, we added man-made identification, thoughts, ideas,
rules and even walls. Now grant it, some things God instructed
us to add (2 Peter 1:5), but over time, we have added things
that we just did not need. To be honest, many of us have
programmed ourselves to override God’s still voice when He
tried to warn us about some of our additions.
Sorors, if we reflect on this year alone we have suffered through
sickness, accidents, deaths and natural disasters all resulting in
some loss. The reality is it hurts to lose people or things as they
are connected to precious memories. However, some of those
things were “add-ons/hang-ons” and although it has the sting of
loss, it’s time to RESET to DEFAULT. Yes, hit the RESET button
and get back to God’s original plan (John 3:3). Some losses we
will never recoup, but in God even when we lose we still win!
