Sorors
,
We have begun the new sororal year on a high note after being
reenergized at our 53 rd National Convention.
sorors who attended the convention.
Thank you to the over fifty
The award winning Jacksonville
Chapter was recognized by the National Arts & Letters commission, the
Strategic Partnerships Task Force for our Project 13 Initiatives, and our Economic
Development Committee where our own Soror Karel Danzie was awarded the Southern
Region’s Women owned Black Business award.
We also received a grant from DREF for
our social action initiatives. In addition, we had members from our EMBODI (Kaleb Floyd)
and GEMS (Essence Burton) programs who represented our chapter at the Presidential
Youth Academy.
As I stated at our retreat in August, I am humbled and honored to be your president. The
members of the Jacksonville Alumnae Chapter make it possible for me to smile at every
event. I always get that, “ oh you are from Jacksonville, well, can I talk to you about…”.
Thank you to our outstanding leadership team as we have set the standard high. Let’s
continue to be the “go to chapter.”
We had our Fall Workshop where the theme for this year was Delta Department Store:
Where service is our charter.
You will see more in the pages of this issue. Soror Jamila
Pope and her team stepped up the game and the challenge to each of us; to continue to
provide exceptional service to the community but also ourselves.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the storms of the past few weeks that have affected
us all. Sorors, continue to pray for those still in crisis due to hurricanes Harvey, Irma and
Maria. Our sisters on the islands are going through it. We all either have family members or
friends that are still trying to get back to their “normal.” Please remember that you can
donate to DREF to support the sorority’s efforts to take care of our own.
Finally Congratulations to our newly elected National officers (page 15) and thank you to
our Executive Board for accepting the challenge of leadership for the 2017-2019 sororal
year (page 4).
