CAROL JAIME Untitled Wood Sculpture 44 X 12 X 8 Par Amour Wood Sculpture 2002 From the Collection of Rosie Gordon-Wallace Carol Jaime’s work brings to mind the ongoing traditional associations of the diaspora, as her figurative wood sculptures harken back to the traditions of west African sculpture and ancestral image making. Her woodwork speaks of ancestry, of time and place, of history and ancient times, of soul. There is a discipline and strength and a deep history that wood carries. Jaime aspires for the viewer to be in utmost admiration for the different grains, textures, colors, scents, and the manner in which with each new carving she has embarked on a new personal journey. Carol Jaime studied art in Cuba before immigrating to Miami, Florida. She was a teaching artist at Miami Children’s Museum for many years and was represented by Diaspora Vibe Gallery.
