WHEEL OFFSETS
Wheel offset is the measured distance between the hub mounting surface and the center line of the
rim.
Wheels are usually stamped with their offset using the German prefix “ET”, meaning Einpresstiefe” or,
literally, “press depth”. This number is typically given in Millimeters (mm). An example would be ‘ET45”
for a 45mm offset.
The offset can also be given in inches and is typically expressed with numbers like “3+4”/ The first
number refers to the distance from the inner wheel half to the hub mounting surface while the sec-
ond number refers to the distance from the hub mounting surface to the outside wheel half.
A positive offset occurs when the hub mounting surface is on the street side (the side you see) of the
center line of the rim. Most factory rims will have this type of offset.
When the hub mounting surface is “centered” within the rim, it is known as a zero offset.
If the hub mounting surface is on the brake side of the enter line of the rim, it is considered a negative
offset or “deep dish”.
