In the Kitchen A Classic in Modern Times Freed’s Bakery & VEGAS CAKES 66 When Freed’s Bakery was first established in 1959 by power couple Milton and Esther Fried, they could never have dreamed that one day their grandchildren would make them famous nationwide. A modest mom and pop bakery located in the then bustling Boulevard Market, their baked goods spoke for themselves, creating loyal customers and friends who relied on their cakes, cookies, bagels and breads for anything from a small family gathering to huge cele- brations. Now, 58 years later, grandchildren Max Jacobson-Fried and Sarah Fusco have upped the ante on the family business. Continuing with traditions and quality products their grandparents and parents set into play over the years, they’re taking the bakery to new heights, developing VEGAS CAKES – a Food Network series featuring outlandish cake creations designed by the team of talented artists who call the Freed’s kitchen home. We spoke with Max and Sarah about the family business, the new show and what it’s like to be third generation owners of a Las Vegas icon.
