UKFast goes extra mile for data centre users
UKFast is set to build a state-of-the-art support and security hub, complete with
accommodation for clients’ technical staff, at its data centre complex following a
successful planning application with Trafford City Council.
Plans for the DC Support Hub facility include plush bedrooms, relaxation areas, a
working office space and Sky TV. In addition to providing an extra layer of security for
UKFast’s data centres, DC Support Hub offers colocation clients the opportunity to
accommodate technical staff, free of charge, while they carry out essential maintenance
work during periods of low traffic during the night.
Plans for DC Support Hub have been drawn up by Project 3 Architects, who have
designed the facility as a direct response to the brief provided by UKFast. The designs
outline a building with large expanses of glazing, over clad in a unique steel mesh to filter
sunlight and provide a secure skin. A state-of-the-art office facility is located to the front
of the building with a large glazed window overlooking the current UKFast site.
IT INFRASTRUCTURE
An online platform which highlights
dangerous driving in the UK has selected
a managed hosting service from Brightonbased provider Hyve to support its rapidly
increasing levels of website traffic.
Established in 2015, Idiot UK Drivers
Exposed had previously been deployed with
a different host on shared servers alongside
other websites. However, at the start of 2016,
their bandwidth usage escalated dramatically,
bringing the whole server to a standstill and
causing their service to be interrupted.
Idiot UK Drivers Exposed then began
looking for a new hosting provider. Key among
their selection criteria was to find a partner
who not only could deliver the service and
performance flexibility to cope with changes
in site traffic levels, but do so with transparent
and predictable pricing. Hyve was chosen due
to its ability to meet these needs: its provision
of dedicated cloud server space and its UKbased support team who are available 24/7.
