Projects & Agreements Jerlaure builds a Tier 3 proximity datacentre cooled by the sun Netiwan has assigned Jerlaure the design and building of its future proximity datacentre, which will have the particularity to be directly cooled by the sun’s heat. Named SynecThik DC, this proximity datacentre, in addition to be classified Tier 3 and highly secured, will be extremely efficient energy wise with a PUE <1.15. These remarkable performances are made possible by mixing several technical and technological innovations. Firstly, the use of total indirect free cooling as a cooling solution, allows the use of outdoor air. An innovative aeraulic concept overcomes the need of duct diffusors, raised floor and false ceiling and an electrical architecture allows operation on efficient performance ranges. And for the first time, a datacentre will be able to be directly cooled by the sun’s heat. Indeed, the SynecThik DC line includes a disruptive innovation, for which Jerlaure owns a worldwide exclusive distribution agreement. This technology can produce cold out from the sun’s heat without any power consumption. Thus, this datacentre will be connected to its environment from an energetic point of view through the air and the sun, but also from an aesthetic point of view, since its covering allows it to fully fit the landscape planned by the Local Urbanism Plan. Its architectural design, realised by Cregut practice, brings in a modern image, simple yet high-tech, while contributing to the datacentre process. The new fully functional site delivers increased capacity to support customer demand in the region and is part of Colt DCS’ aggressive growth strategy for 2017. The significant investment made to upgrade the carrier-neutral data centre will deliver improvements in reliability and an energy efficient infrastructure. An additional 645m 2 has been added to the site, including 400m 2 at full fit out and 245m 2 at half fit-out ready to support 170 and 119 new racks, respectively. The data centre’s total capacity now stands at 1,845m 2 of white space for customer colocation racks with an available mains power of 1,200 watts per square metre. Colt DCS expects the expansion to create new business opportunities in target sectors including financial services, media and the public sector. In addition to capacity upgrades, Colt DCS has taken significant steps to enhance customer service quality, reliability and the power efficiency of the site – innovations that will offer competitive advantage while awarding customers a best-in-class environment to develop their operational performance. Randstad is using AWS cloud infrastructure as the basis for its new central Shared Service Centre (SSC) to deliver global IT services, and will be utilising Commvault to maximise this offering. Randstad’s IT infrastructure is currently being consolidated and centralised across 30 IT departments providing services to 40 Operating Companies in Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific. This transformation will increase efficiency, reduce risk and provide better service from an IT infrastructure perspective in alignment with Randstad’s global digital vision. Ranstad needed a trusted provider to support this transformation with a robust and compatible solution. Commvault was chosen based on its ability to deliver the scalability and flexibility of service necessary to complete the task in exact accordance with Ranstad’s requirements. In addition, the Commvault platform delivered deduplication and compression functionality, which will reduce storage consumption and save significant costs. Another critical reason for the selection was the proven integration between Randstad’s AWS based public cloud strategy, managed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Commvault’s solutions.
