Cleanup continues. • February 8, 2016 -- A Denbury Onshore pipeline in Bowman County leaked 8,400 gallons of saltwater into a stock dam. The Health Department reported “The pipeline location was on a hill, so all liquids drained into stock dam.” The stock dam is no longer usable. • December 4, 2015 -- 9,000 gallons of saltwater flowed from a pipeline connection leak at a Denbury Onshore well site near Marmarth in Bowman County. The Health Department reported “Recovery of water is not possible as soaked into ground quickly.” • October 29, 2014 -- About 17,000 gallons of water leaked from a Denbury Onshore pipeline in Bowman County and flowed into a drainage of the Little Missouri River. • January 7, 2014 -- 2,000 gallons of saltwater leaked from a pipeline at a well site owned by Denbury Onshore in Bowman County. The water flowed into Kid Creek. • November 27, 2013 -- A leaky valve on a water injection well owned by Denbury Onshore spilled 2,000 gallons of oil and 12,000 gallons of saltwater at an oil well site near Maxbass, in Bottineau County. • November 25, 2013 -- This is the big one. Nearly three quarters of a million gallons of saltwater leaked from a pipeline on the Montana-North Dakota border south of Marmarth and flowed east into Bowman County, into Big Gumbo Creek, a tributary of the Little Missouri River, which is a tributary of the Missouri River. There is no mention of the spill on the North Dakota Health Department’s website because it occurred on the Montana side of the state line. How convenient. You’ll note that most of Denbury’s work takes place in the southern Badlands of North Dakota, the most fragile area of our state. I’d like to get together with the folks in Bowman County and get them kicked out of there. They’re doing some real damage. I’ve written about Denbury before. This company is a really bad actor, spilling stuff all over America, paying fines for environmental violations as they go. I’ve asked North Dakota’s Oil and Gas Division how much Denbury has paid in fines for the violations listed above. If I ever find out, I’ll let you know. I last wrote about Denbury on my blog, The Prairie Blog, in December of 2013. Back then I sent a message to our governor “to just (701) 223-1057 1500 East Main Bismarck, ND MORE TRUCK FOR YOUR BUCK!
