FRONTEX POSITIONING SYSTEM - FPS Period and area of implementation The FPS started in 2009 and has been continuous activity implemented within Frontex HQ (administrative financial procedures) and operationally tested / used in the operational areas of maritime joint operations (JO). The Contract for developing the FPS has been signed for three years period (starting as from November 2014). Participants: Assets of Member States (MS) participating in Frontex coordinated maritime JO. The FPS is being implemented by SBS in close cooperation with ICT, FSC and FIN. Concept FPS is a single, integrated, real-time automated system for tracking assets deployed in the Frontex coordinated JO by:  displaying positions of the assets in real time;  calculating running costs of those assets, thus providing automated procedures for assimilating and reporting financial data within JO. For this purpose some assets deployed in JO will be equipped with a portable GPS/satellite/GSM transceiver to be installed on board of the asset. Information on assets (time, position, speed, course, height, type) sent via portable equipment is received in ICC/NCC or other locations defined in the operational plan and is displayed on screen of the portable operational module in the real or near real time, thus increasing the awareness on resources and providing responsible officials with timely, accurate and complete information on which they can base daily decisions and to facilitate the operational cycle of JO.
