Mr. Michalis Zantis Standards Officer, Secretary of National Technical Committee CYS/TC 22 & European Technical Committee CEN/TC 12 Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS) & Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ΕΤΕΚ) T: +357 22 411415 M: +357 99 333439 E: [email protected] Mr. Michalis Zantis is a Standards Officer at the Cyprus Organisation for Standardisation (CYS), where he manages the Standardization activities for the Mechanical Engineering Products and Gas sectors. After his studies for HND in Mechanical Engineering at the Higher Technical Institute (HTI) in Nicosia, he continued his studies in London, at South Bank University, where he was awarded a BEng(Hons) degree in Building Services Engineering. He has worked at CYS since 2007 and during this period he has represented Cyprus at the plenary meetings of European Standardisation Technical Committees for various subjects. More recently and after the developments of the emerging Hydrocarbons sector in Cyprus, he is more involved in Standardization Committees related to Oil & Gas. Since 2015, Mr. Michalis Zantis is the Secretary of the European Technical Committee “CEN/TC 12 Materials, equipment and offshore structures for petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries”, for which CYS holds the Secretariat in a twinning arrangement with the Dutch Standards Body (NEN). Since 2017, Mr. Michalis Zantis is also the Secretary for the National Technical Committee CYS/TC 22 "Hydrocarbons". "Standardisation for the Oil & Gas Industry: A tool for success" The presentation will focus on the activities of standardisation for the Oil & Gas industry in European and International level, giving to the professionals involved the opportunity to broaden thei understanding of standardisation works for this globally inportant sctor and develop a clear picture on the benefits of adoption of standards. The European and International standardisation systems will be analyzed and will provide an overview of the process for developing standards, with particular emphasis on the efforts, work and products arising out of ISO Technical Committee 67 (ISO?TC 67) that works on standards for “Materials, equipment and offshore structures for the petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas industries” and the relation it has with the European Technical Committee 12 (CEN?TC 12). Reference to the Cyprus Technical Committee CYS/TC 22 “Hydrocarbons”, will be made and the standardisation activities at Naval level and the interconnection with the activities of the European and International systems will be explained.
