Mr. Ioannis Efstratiou Senior Marine Surveyor, Shipping Deputy Ministry to the President of Cyprus T: +357 25 848273 E: jefstratiou@dms,gov.cy Ioannis Efstratiou has graduated from National Technical University of Athens in 1991 (Ethniko Metsovio Polytechnio). He joined Cyprus Maritime Administration in May 1993. He was promoted to Senior Marine Surveyor in 2009. He is the Head of Environment and RO Division in Flag State Directorate of Shipping Deputy Ministry to the President. From April 2016 up to February 2018, he was temporarily appointed as the Acting Director of Department of Merchant Shipping. He represents Cyprus in International (IMO) and regional level in numerous technical forums and committees. He is member of the Administrative Board of European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), and of the National Committee on Maritime Training. "Shipping and Offshore Industry" Shipping is a great asset for our country and it is a sector that we are all proud of. Cyprus has been firmly established as a reputable international maritime centre combining both a sovereign flag and a resident shipping industry which is renowned for its high quality services and standards of safety. Another area of future business development related both to Shipping and Oil and Gas Industry is the use of LNG as the fuel of the future to Ships Cyprus due its location, knowledge in Shipping industry, and taking advantage of natural gas reserves can become a regional Center for LNG bunker industry. Cyprus can develop into an important Energy Center in the Mediterranean. New and vibrant shipping and energy projects can be launched and the policy that the Cyprus Government will implement will include Cyprus´s future maritime transport needs for our hydrocarbons. Our objective for the future is to consolidate and further develop our role in world shipping and to provide the adequate conditions for a sustainable growth of the shipping sector in Cyprus.
