Menelaos (Mel) Ydreos currently serves as the Director, Public Affairs for the International Gas Union (IGU).
IGU’s mission is to advocate for natural gas as an integral part of a sustainable global energy system, and to
promote the political, technical and economic progress of the gas industry.
Mr. Ydreos also serves as the Executive Director of Energy Vantage Inc. in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He
launched Energy Vantage Inc. after a long career at Union Gas Ltd-A Spectra Energy Company where he held a
number of executive positions. He served as Interim President and CEO of the Ontario Energy Association in
2013-2014. Under the IGU's Malaysian Presidency, he chaired the special task force on geopolitics and natural
gas. He was also the Interim President and CEO of the Canadian Gas Association in 2009.
Mr. Ydreos is the Founding Chair of Energy Technology and Innovation Canada, a past member of the Advisory
Board of the University of Waterloo’s Sustainability Institute, past member of Pollution Probe’s Board of
Directors and a member of the Advisory Committee of the Mowatt Centre’s Energy Fellow practice. Ydreos is
past chair of the Standing Committee on Operations for the Canadian Gas Association, and has served on the
board of directors of Canadian Standards International.
Mr. Ydreos earned a B.S. in civil engineering from the University of Waterloo.
