Sparking Change Through SPARK, a mentorship initiative, our staff is working with Willie Brown Middle School students to complete and present science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) projects. By serving as mentors, we’re keeping students engaged through interactive learning activities and connecting them with professionals who can help them explore potential careers. This helps to grow our next generation of environmental stewards and future utility workers. To learn more about our school partnerships, visit sfwater.org/communitybenefits. Adopt a Drain makes it easy for San Franciscans to “adopt” one or more of the City’s 25,000 storm drains/catch basins and pledge to keep it free of leaves and debris. Adopting a drain helps keep our streets clean, protect the environment and minimize flooding. You can even name your drain! Nearly 1,000 passionate residents have adopted a drain giving them names like: I Drain of Jeannie, My Mind is in the Gutter, Belly Button Basin, Go With the Flow, and Midnight Drain to Georgia. Adopt your own drains at adoptadrain.sfwater.org. 4 currents | MAY/JUNE 2017 SUBSCRIBE FOR FREE
