Biomechanical Analysis of an Achondroplastic Dwarf with Limb Length Discrepancy
compared to the left side . The postural stabilogram showed the patient standing still on the EMED plate in a relaxed angle and base of stance . The center of gravity lines started at the center of the heel and then stayed close to the right foot with sway . The center of gravity did not center between the left and right feet and therefore , most of the pressure to maintain balance was located in the right foot .
The patient ’ s feet were molded in STJ neutral for custom made orthotics to support the arches , stabilize the feet , and correct for the static limb length discrepancy particularly by increasing the height of the heel .
Achondroplasia is a complex deformity where static and dynamic gait analysis should be utilized for better diagnosis . According to Inan et al , 6 evaluation of varus deformities in a kinetic evaluation does not correlate with a static evaluation because static measurements are commonly lower . Determination of the primary deformity is essential in treating this patient population . In this study , the static limb length discrepancy was in the normal range , with the left lower limb being 0.5 cm longer ; but , it was hypothesized that the musculoskeletal deformities in the entire body allowed for abnormal dynamic anatomical limb
