"... of course , if it looks good , but is not functional , then what good is the modification ?"
or something more complex like putting a rocker sole on a shoe to relieve the pain of osteoarthritis of the joints , or widening the shank area of the shoe to accommodate a pronated foot with a bony prominence . I don ’ t need to write a work order and have someone else perform the work , someone who has not seen the patient / customer ; I do it myself .
Personally , I will tell you that I don ’ t know everything , and am open to learning new and differing techniques in pedorthics and shoe repairing . I ’ ve taken and used ideas from seeing shoe modifications from others . Attending PFA symposiums also gives me an opportunity to further my knowledge in pedorthics and shoe repairing . I also know my limitations . Sometimes , there ’ s nothing I can do for the customer , and I refer them to a different discipline .
Overall , being both a pedorthist and shoe repairman serves me and my business well . Everyone has their niche . Find out what yours is and apply it .
