Where Efficiency & Productivity Meet
There is a reason we are seeing more independent physicians joining groups . What they are trying to do is increase their efficiency and productivity , yielding greater profitability . Bigger is not always better , but economy of scale and sharing of resources often allows for greater efficiency , productivity , and profitability . Only if it is done right , however ! As a single practitioner ( the wearer of many hats ), the unreasonable expectations of being the marketing department , the administration , the patient care department , the fabrication department , and the purchasing department , make it impossible to do all those aspects well , especially when done simultaneously . If there are no prospects of a merger to benefit from shared resources , there are some things the single practitioner can do to make their practice more efficient , productive , and profitable . Planning , implementing , and performing changes to gain efficiency leads to more time to focus on bringing new referral sources and patients through the door .
Planning is hard . It needs to be done not while grinding a rocker sole , or gluing a top cover , but with one ’ s undivided attention . We get so used to multitasking that we think we can apply multitasking to all endeavors . No , you can ’ t ! It does not matter what your IQ is , or how well you answer questions
