LEADING LADIES IN PEDORTHICS
She is a motivator with inspiring energy and certainly knows her stuff ! She has many accomplishments to spotlight as she has truly been a crusader in her profession . Ms . Robertson ’ s pedorthic journey has even taken her to the Olympics !
Ms . Robertson received her BS in Health , Physical Education and Recreation from the University of North Alabama in 1974 , her Masters in Health , Physical Education and Recreation from the University of Alabama in 1978 and her certification as an Athletic Trainer in 1978 . She has served as Assistant Professor and Head Women ’ s Trainer for the University of Alabama . She has also served as Assistant Professor for Brewer State Community College and Shelton State Community College Schools of Health , Physical Education and Recreation . Ms .
Robertson was most recently employed by Pedorthic Care Center , Inc ., in Hoover , AL and now retired in the lovely Villages of Florida .
Becoming a certified pedorthist in 1989 , she began fitting athletic teams around the United States . Along the way , she started the first sports medicine clinic in Alabama at University Orthopedic Clinic , and opened an athletic shoe store called The Total Approach , both in Tuscaloosa .
Ms . Robertson says , “ When I took my [ certification ] exam there were seven men on my committee — no women . So that gives you an idea as to the challenge ,” she said . Adding , “ Many barriers [ for women ] have come down , but there are always some out there . Equal pay is not yet a reality . As women in these roles we have to continuously prove ourselves ,
