urly hair is unique, beautiful, and something our curly cuties should be proud of. We must ensure we remind them everyday just how amazing their hair is and instill the confidence in them to ignore any negative comments they may receive throughout life.
Has your curly cutie ever been through a phase of disliking their curly hair because it's different? Or, maybe because of negative comments from other children? Well, Niecey has... And it was such a difficult time to overcome.
One day, Niecey decided she hated her hair. Unfortunately, the hatred stemmed from comments made by some of the children at her school. The children would say things like, "You have stupid big fluffy hair," and then even attempt to cut her hair off in class, thank goodness for blunt scissors! This grew to a point where she would only allow me to put her hair up into a ponytail, because all she wanted was for her hair to be the same texture as the other girls' at school.
Seeing Niecey cry was so upsetting. She's not crying because someone stole her toy, or because she fell and scraped her knee— but instead, crying because of a horrible comment about her hair.

It's easy for us as adults to ignore such negative comments brought to us, but not so easy for a child! I made sure I told her everyday that her hair was beautiful and she was so lucky to have such nice hair. We sat one day and searched the internet for pictures of girls with hair similar to hers and she couldn't believe other people out there had the same hair type! She was slowly beginning to like her hair again. Through this process we also found the perfect products for her hair, CurlyKids. She finally let me leave her hair completely out, and soon as she did, she received so many compliments. She began to take an interest in her hair again and started to get involved in her hair care routine and was finally embracing her beautiful curls!!!
