The moment Barbara Whitehead walks into the room at the Donald Green Center, it’s evident from the way she lights up to the music playing in the background that bringing mu- sic to life for other seniors is indeed a life-long gift nd passion. “I love our Monday (Senior) Jam Sessions,” Whitehead said. “We have been doing these for a very long time and I am so glad to see the pickin’ and grinning sessions growing so much.” Every Monday, you will fi d this group playing music and having a good time. They sing and play a vari- ety of old songs. Since she was a teenager, White- head has loved music, and through a Nashville career, the love has grown – prompting her to bring the sounds back to Cullman. “Th ough just Jam Sessions that I started with my late husband Don Whitehead, we have been able to see so many seniors stay active, physical- ly, mentally and spiritually,” she said. She has always enjoyed taking the time to work with fellow seniors and see them come together to engage in a hobby they all love – making music come alive. She said it was a pleasure working with all of the Jam Sessions partici- pants to bring the recent dream pro- duction of Hee Haw to the stage. From, Junior Samples, Grandpa Jones, Minnie Pearl and more, the funniest (and the most talented) of the old school Hee Haw cast were well represented when local seniors took the stage for a fi st-ever comedy filled variety show. Everything was free and the pro- gram’s purpose was two-fold: to raise local awareness, sponsorships, and and to give the seniors already involved in the group’s on-going activities a signature event to showcase their talent. Whitehead, who has been organizing shows for years at the Donald Green Center, said she felt like this entire show was going to be another wonderful asset to seeing the music pro- gram come alive. “Th s whole show is done for just our seniors, and really, hon- estly, they have been practicing very hard,” she said. “They enjoy being involved so much and for some of these people, this is the biggest performance some of these folks have ever done.
