Taste of Cullman 412 PUBLIC HOUSE ‘Seasoned Americana’ By BENJAMIN BULLARD I Christine Nishimura, one of 412’s owners, also serves as head bartender at the restaurant. n the seven short months since opening its doors, 412 Public House in the heart of Cullman’s historic downtown already has established itself as one of those places that feels like it’s al- ways been a local fixture. That’s by design, according to Trey Jordan, one of the gastropub’s owners (along with Stephen Gannon, Christine Nishimura, and her husband, Ricardo).  “We just wanted it to be really chill; to be really relaxed here,” says Jordan, who’s coined an apt term — “seasoned Americana” — to describe the restaurant’s vibe.  “The idea is, we want this to be something of an escape; a get- away. When you come in here, the focus should be on you: your conversation with your friends; on making that memory. Let us take care of you.” Occupying an airy, high-ceilinged structure built from the ground up to do exactly that, 412 has brought new life to an area on downtown’s east side that’s seen a slow but robust recovery since the 2011 tornado that razed many of the buildings along the block where it now sits.  412 PUBLIC HOUSE 412 2nd Ave SE, Cullman Open Tuesday-Thursday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.; 4 p.m.-11 p.m. Friday & Saturday: 11 a.m.-12 a.m. Sunday: 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Handmade cocktails, craft beer Steaks, seafood, salads, sandwiches, desserts 16 Visit or call 256-841-6412 Cullman magazine | WINTER 2018
